“Who by fire, who by water”:  reflections on the Unetaneh Tokef prayer

Presenter: Rabbi Fred Morgan

As a personal preparation for the High Holydays, we shall use a recent collection of essays published by Jewish Lights to explore the Unetaneh Tokef prayer which lies at the very heart of the liturgy for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.  This famous prayer, sung to the most beautiful and haunting melodies, challenges us to consider the meaning of life and death in relation to our own values and actions.  These two sessions shall open up the prayer for us and encourage us to look at ourselves in the light of its bold picture of the human condition.  Handouts will be supplied but participants may wish to bring their own copies of the High Holyday Machzor (prayerbook).

Free to TBI members, $5 for non-members
