B’nei Mitzvah Coordinator

Temple Beth Israel (TBI), one of Melbourne’s largest and most dynamic synagogues, is seeking a dynamic and passionate B’nei Mitzvah Coordinator to replace our current coordinator who is leaving in June to further their religious training.

Reporting to the Senior Rabbi and working in partnership with the Rabbinic team and the Education and Engagement Co-ordinator you will oversee all aspects of our current B’nei Mitzvah program from orientation through to the celebration.

The B’nei Mitzvah Coordinator will focus on creating authentic opportunities for B’nei Mitzvah students to demonstrate their learning as they work towards their individual s’machot. This position also involves:

  • Working with Rabbis and Cantor, to ensure B’nei Mitzvah standards are being met
  • Managing tutors, time sheets and attendance
  • One on one B’nei Mitzvah tutoring
  • Liaising with parents on all matters regarding student’s progress and communicating with them about upcoming events and activities
  • Maintaining the B’nei Mitvah page on tbi.org.au
  • Co-ordinating the group education (Binah) program

Above all the B’nei Mitzvah Coordinator will ensure that our B’nei Mitzvah team reflect the values and principles that have defined TBI for the last eighty-five years, and made it a community of meaning and purpose.

As the successful candidate you will have:

  • An undergraduate degree in Jewish studies or equivalent with a working knowledge of Hebrew.
  • Love of Torah and Torah leyning with experience in teaching both.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with all people.
  • A passion for innovation and enjoy working as part of a collaborative team
  • A background in administration and programming in both synagogue and communal settings.
  • Strong, writing and editing skills and highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in using social media
  • A satisfactory working with children and criminal history check is required

This is a permanent part time position of 25 hours per week
