Living With Dementia Support Group
Living with Dementia is a Jewish support group, established and hosted by Temple Beth Israel, and run by experienced social workers who give their time to offer support and information to family members and friends caring for someone with dementia.
The group meets every six weeks, and has become a valuable space for family carers in their journey caring for a loved one with dementia, a process that can often be lonely and bewildering.
In addition to informal and supportive discussions and the sharing of valuable resources, we also invite professionals from the fields of aged care and dementia to address the group on relevant topics. How to best communicate with a loved one, how to respond to challenging or changed behaviours, looking at alternative ways to help and care (such as music and creative arts), and learning how caregivers can best look after themselves as well: these are all topics we seek to explore as we create a safe, open, and supportive space.
